Race Rules and Safety

  • Time Limit - Same as posted on the Individual Competition Page
  • Seeding - Provide your expected finish time when you register. If not, then you will be assigned a 15-minute pace.
  • Scoring - Course has been measured on the paved roads. Runners must stay on the roadway at all times. You may be disqualified if you "cut" the race course. Runners must have a race number to start and run. Attach the timing chip to your shoe and cross all rubberized timing mats or you will be disqualified.
  • Bib Policy - Same as posted on the Individual Competition Page.
  • USATF Rule 144.3(b) - Same as posted on the Individual Competition Page.

Race Security

Security - There will be controlled access points and all runners/spectators must pass thru a security check point. Security policy stated on Entry Form.

Start Line & Race Course
1. Sorry, no spectators allowed at the Start Line. Runners must have a race number to access the Start. No bags allowed.
2. Prohibited - cell phones, iPods, headphones, cameras and any other audio/video device.
3. Allowed - Heart rate monitors, water bottles, GPS watches, medical kits, gel packets. Water belts and fanny packs subject to search.
4. No strollers, baby-joggers, skateboards, roller blades, animals, or anything else deemed a safety threat allowed on the course.

Finish Area
1. Prohibited Items - coolers, glass containers, weapons, bikes,
skateboards and any other item deemed to be a security threat.
2. Allowable – Small purses/bags and backpacks, camera bags, baby bags, and strollers are allowed but subject to search.

Pentagon Photo Policy - Please be advised that for security reasons, photographing of the Pentagon is prohibited.

  • Time Clocks - Every mile along course and at Finish.
  • Water - Start, Finish and every 2 miles along the course.
  • Latrines - Start, Finish and at the water stations along the course.
  • First Aid - Start, Finish and along course provided by Walter Reed Medical Center.
  • Police and Course Officials - At every intersection and along the course.

Race Day Road Closures and Delays
Route 27 (all lanes) will be closed from 5:30am to 9:30am Starting at 7:30am, the following roads will close and open on a rolling schedule:
  • Arlington Memorial Bridge
  • Constitution Ave. between 23rd and 18th Streets
  • Virginia Ave. (all lanes)
  • Rock Creek Parkway (south of Virginia Ave.)
  • Independence Ave. (westbound lanes) from Ohio Drive to 14th Street
  • Independence Ave. (all lanes) from 14th Street to 1st Street
  • 3rd Street, between Independence and Constitution Aves.
  • Constitution Ave. between 3rd Street and 1st Street
  • 14th Street south to I-395 HOV Lane (northbound)
  • I-395 HOV Lane (northbound) to Eads Street ramp
