Army Ten-Miler - Race Day Schedule (hour-by-hour detail)

6:00AM

At 6:00AM the ATM Information tent is operational.

  • Volunteers begin to check in at the volunteer tent.
  • Security sweep of area 2 complete, controlled entry to Area 2 begins.
  • Route 27 is closed to vehicle traffic, blocking buses are in position and LEAs begin security sweep.
  • Start line setup begins for wave 1 (Route 27) and wave 2.
  • Lead and trail party vehicles, having completed security checks, are staged at lane 63, Pentagon North Parking Lot.
  • LEAs begin closing Memorial and 14th Street Bridges.
  • Parachute drop zone (DZ) vans are in position.

    At 6:15AM the Main Medical Point (patient care) is operational and the course medics are in position.

  • The 3rd IN Reg LP/OP for 14th Street Bridge is in position.

    At 6:30AM the Start line and seeding area setup is complete.

  • 3rd IN Reg, ATM and PMO execute the initial review of the course.
  • The Start line water point is operational.
  • LEAs begin security sweep of Memorial and 14th Street Bridges.

    At 6:40AM the 3rd IN Reg hand wand security stations for Area 1 are operational
  • Area 1 is opened to runners and support staff only.
  • LEAs complete the security sweep of the 14th Street Bridge.
  • Access to wave 1 until 7:50 AM (After all wave 1 runners go to wave 2)

    7:00AM

    At 7:00AM the Golden Knights ground crew clears the DZs for the Golden Knights and the SkyHawks.

    At 7:10AM the SkyHawks jump into their DZ, followed by the Golden Knights at 7:20AM into their DZ.

    At 7:20AM, the 3rd IN Reg LP/OP for Memorial Bridge is in position.

  • Access to wave 2 start area 7:20AM - 8:00AM

    At 7:30AM, the 3rd IN Reg conducts the final review of course.

  • LEAs security sweep of Memorial Bridge is complete.
  • The Golden Knights and the SkyHawks load vans and conduct movement to the Youth Activity Center.
  • The lead and trail party vehicles move to their respective start points.
  • All race points are operational: finish line, water points, musical support, course timing, course marshals, medical support, food tent, salute guns, color guard, youth zone and split timers.

    At 7:40AM, 3rd IN Reg Color Guard presents colors, and TUSAB soloist sings the National Anthem.

    At 7:42AM, AOG executes the Blackhawk flyover.

    At 7:43AM, MDW Chaplain gives the Invocation.

    At 7:45AM Memorial Bridge is reported clear, and CG, MDW makes the decision to execute the race start.

    At 7:48AM SECARMY makes his remarks.

    At 04 7:50AM, the MDW Chaplain starts the Wheelchair and missing parts start.

  • 3rd IN Reg removes the start line hard barrier and forms the wave 1 Soldier Chain.
  • At 7:58AM the Wave 1 Soldier Chain moves to rear of wave 1 and reforms as the Wave 2 Soldier chain.

    8:00AM

    At 8:00AM, Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen Casey, starts the 1st Wave.

    At 8:10AM SMA Preston starts the 2nd Wave.

    At 8:20AM Area 1 security stands down.

  • The 3rd IN Reg begins start line recovery operations.
  • As the last runner passes the on ramp, trail vehicles fall in.

    At 8:40AM, the Media truck breaks away from the lead party and drives ahead to the finish line.

    9:00AM

    At 9:40AM, Course Marshalls at the 5 mile mark begin to divert slow runners by directing a right turn onto 14th street, instead of continuing straight.


    10:00AM

    At 10:30AM the official race course is closed at mile 8 marker by MPD and course marshals.

  • The Runner recovery bus follows the last runner, picking up slow and injured runners.
  • The Runner recovery bus stops prior to 14th Street Bridge in order to load additional slow and injured runners.

    At 10:50AM ATM conducts the youth runs.


    11:00AM

    At 11:00AM G38 conducts the Awards Ceremony.


    12:00PM

    At 12:00PM the Security mission is complete; all units and staff sections begin to recover MDW equipment.

    At 12:30PM, J33 conducts hot wash at the ROC .

    1:00PM

    At 1:00PM the ROC is shut down, the MCP redeploys and contractor clean up begins.

  • Completion of the hot wash and closure of the ROC is the trigger to transition to Phase V.
