Exhibitors arrive at 7:00 AM and the Youth Activity Zone opens to the public at 8:00 AM. Pre-registered youth participate in two youth runs (K-3rd, and 4th-8th). Youth participants must be in the warm-up area by 10:15. At 10:45, K-3rd youth will run 200m, and 4th-8th will run 400m. The contractor, Fitness Image Results, manages these races.

Task Details
Help coordinate Youth Activity Zone activities
The Zone will be a hub of activity, including an appearance from DC Divas, Washington DC's National Women's Football Association team, the DC Air National Guard, The GEICO Gecko, and Kaizen Karate. The Youth Activity Zone also features "The Hill" - a unique sports experience has a slide, basketball hoops, a scaling wall and much more. You will work with your coordinator and other volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Monitor flow of parents and children
You may have to direct parents and/or children to the variety of different activities. You may find "traffic" becomes congested at certain locations. Help participants move from congested areas so they can appreciate the varied events.
Watch for unsafe behavior/conditions
Keen observation is the key to success in rectifying any potential safety problem. Be aware of areas where children are not permitted and behavior (such as running or pushing) that can cause harm to others.
Work with parents to ensure they stay in Youth Activity Zone with their child/children
The Youth Activity Zone provides an educational environment for children and their parents. Parents must be present for children to participate in all the zone has to offer.
Report back to coordinator, responding to problems
Your job as a volunteer is to identify problems and report them to your coordinator who is responsible for addressing your concerns.
