Army Ten-Miler - Finish Line Coordinator
Position Overview
The Army Ten-Miler is one of the largest ten-milers in the country. At the end of the race, 23,000 people will cross the finish line. As finish line coordinator, it's your responsibility to monitor the flow of runners, keeping them moving as they cross the Finish Line. (Runners must not back up and block the Finish Line.)
Runners who have crossed the finish line must keep moving through the deceleration zone into the Finish Corral where runners end the race. You will receive support from

. Beyond the Finish Line is the deceleration zone and the finish corral area where runners end the race. (The corral is located in Pentagon Parking lanes 35 - 36, as identified in the
ATM Staging Diagram
). Your team must keep runners moving into the Runner Finish Corral. You should ensure all personnel have a general knowledge of runners' peak arrival times. Work with your team to ensure the Finish Line area includes only authorized, credentialed personnel.
You and your team must watch for runners who need medical attention, and notify a medic if necessary. Be prepared to maintain a clear path in the curb lane form the Finish Line to the Pemberton Medical Zone.
Time/Location Information:
As the Finish Line Coordinator, you need to report to the Volunteer Check-in Tent in the South Pentagon Parking Lot Lane 19 (Fern and No. Rotary) at 6:00 AM and report to the Finish Line NLT 6:15 AM.
Task Overview
- Provide instructions to the Finish Line volunteers regarding their task
- Placement of volunteers from Finish Line to the Runner Finish Corral
- Keep people moving
- Assist in the distribution of bottled water which is located along the deceleration zone
- Serve as Point of Contact and Coordinate with ATM representative
Task Detail
Provide volunteers with instructions regarding task
Volunteers will check-in 6:00 AM arrive at 6:15 AM. You will instruct volunteers about their duties.
- Provide guidance on monitoring the flow of runners
- Identify typical peak arrival times for runners
- Ensure the finish line area includes only authorized, credentialed personnel
- Provide information on identifying runners who need medical attention, and how to respond
Balance resources
You will work with approximately 25 finish corral volunteers. Ensure they work throughout the finish corral to keep runners moving.
Keep people moving
As finish line coordinator, it's your responsibility to monitor the flow of runners, keeping them moving as they cross the Finish Line. (Runners must not back up and block the Finish Line.)
Ensure water is available
Along the deceleration zone (Finish Line to Lane 36) 22,000 bottles of water will be placed on Saturday by the ATM contractor. Finish Line volunteers will distribute the water.
Serve as Point of Contact and Coordinate with ATM representative
You will be provided with a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to support coordination at the time of check-in.
