Army Ten-Miler - Youth Activity Zone Coordinator

Position Overview

The Youth Activity Zone is for youth in grades Kindergarten through 8th grades. The activities and displays in the Youth Activity Zone are designed to be educational, safe and fitness related. The Youth Activity Zone is known as the location for the Youth Fun Runs - an event that requires all participants to be pre-registered.

As the Youth Activity Zone Coordinator, you will manage the area with the D.C. Air National Guard and additional ATM volunteers. A fitness group, Fitness Images Results conducts the warm ups and coordinate the two runs. All participants must be escorted by their parents.

Location Information:

As Youth Activity Zone Coordinator, you will report to the Volunteer Check-In Tent in the South Pentagon Parking Lot, Lane 19 (Fern and No. Rotary). You will then report to Lane 19 of the South Pentagon Parking Lot.

Task Detail

Serve as point of contact
You will work with the various Youth Activity Zone volunteers . You will work with the ATM office and ATM contractors to ensure everything is running smoothly. You will use a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to support coordination.

Ensure everything is set up
On Saturday, (October 23, 2010) all exhibitors' equipment and staging materials will be moved into the Pentagon South Parking Lot between 2 PM and 4PM. On race day, (Sunday October 24, 2010) exhibitors need to arrive by 6:00 AM. Vehicle access is allowed from 4:30 to 5:30 on the morning of the race, but vehicles must go through security checks to unload.

Balance resources

You will work with 15-20 Youth Activity Zone volunteers .

Organize activities
As coordinator you must organize the youth warm-ups, organize and coordinate the youth runs, and organize the activities associated with The Hill. As people move from one event to another, you must monitor the "traffic flow" for safety.
